Charmonium Dissociation and Recombination: Cold Effects
نویسنده
چکیده
Thirty years ago, Matsui and Satz proposed the J/ψ destruction as a signal of a Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) formation, due to the Debye screening between the pair c-cbar. At the light of the recent experimental data, I review the different effects on J/ψ production, from SPS to LHC energies, distinguishing between Cold Nuclear Matter (CNM) and QGP effects. Different possibilities and explanations for the available experimental data are discussed. Model predictions for the arriving LHC data are also presented

Charmonium production at forward rapidity at RHIC
One of the key issues in understanding charmonium production in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions is the discrimination of suppression (due to Debye screening and/or dissociation reactions) vs. regeneration mechanisms (due to recombination of charm and anti-charm quarks). Both mechanisms are believed to be primarily active in the putatively formed Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). Since suppressi...
متن کاملExcitation function Analysis for Charmonium Production in Heavy-Ion Collisions
Both color screening and regeneration are hot medium effects on charmonium production in heavy ion collisions. While they affect in an opposite way the charmonium yield, their competition in transverse dynamics bring sensitivity to the ratio of averaged transverse momentum square for charmonium, which thus can reveal more nature of the QCD medium created from the collisions. We make an excitati...
متن کاملSearch for the Charmonium Dissociation Temperature with Variational Analysis in Lattice QCD
Charmonium dissociation temperatures are studied in a quenched anisotropic lattice QCD with standard plaquette gauge action and O(a) improved Wilson fermion action. Simulations are carried out at temperatures in the range 0.88 Tc to 2.3 Tc. From the meson correlators, we first subtract the contribution of constant mode, which was reported to mislead the analysis of, in particular, P wave signal...
متن کاملCharmonium Production and Corona Effect
We study the centrality dependence to be expected if only charmonium production in the corona survives in high energy nuclear collisions, with full suppression in the hot, deconfined core. To eliminate cold nuclear matter effects as far as possible, we consider the ratio of charmonium to open charm production. The centrality dependence of this ratio is found to follow a universal geometric form...
متن کاملOpen charm and charmonium production at relativistic energies
We calculate open charm and charmonium production in Au + Au reactions at √ s = 200 GeV within the hadron-string dynamics (HSD) transport approach employing open charm cross sections from pN and πN reactions that are fitted to results from PYTHIA and scaled in magnitude to the available experimental data. Charmonium dissociation with nucleons and formed mesons to open charm (D + D̄ pairs) is inc...
